Dr. James W. Crall
The richest man in town had died. His casket was taken to the big church downtown, where he had attended, and was placed up
front. There it waited for the funeral that would be held that afternoon. The janitor and his wife were there vacuuming and
preparing the auditorium for the service. As the two cleaned and got closer to the casket of the deceased, they stopped and
looked down into the face of the rich man.
The wife asked, "I wonder how much he left behind. I understand he was worth a lot of money." The old janitor
looked in the casket and then at his wife and replied, "I think he left it ALL."
I have preached at hundreds of funerals and followed many a hearse to the cemetery throughout my ministry. I can say that
I have never once seen a hearse with a trailer or a rental truck following the procession loaded down with possessions. We
all have one thing in common: when we die we leave it all.
As we look to our future, let us remember: "ONLY ONE LIFE 'TWILL SOON BE PAST; ONLY WHAT'S DONE FOR CHRIST WILL LAST."
